DemeCAPRONE (POLIGLECAPRONE 25) is a synthetic absorbable suture that causes only a minimal acute inflammatory response in tissues. This initial reaction is succeeded by the suture being gradually encapsulated by fibrous connective tissue. The suture's tensile strength diminishes progressively, and its absorption takes place through hydrolysis. This absorption process starts with a decrease in tensile strength, followed by a reduction in mass. The suture is essentially absorbed within a span of 90 to 120 days. DemeCAPRONE (POLIGLECAPRONE 25) suture is available in sizes ranging from 2 to 6/0.

Indications:

• Do not re-sterilize. Only use if packaging is intact and undamaged.
• Discard any open, unused sutures.
• Store at room temperature and avoid extended exposure to high temperatures.
• Extended contact of this suture with salt solutions, like those in urinary or biliary tracts, can lead to calculus formation.
• Users must be proficient in surgical techniques using absorbable sutures before using DemeCAPRONE (POLIGLECAPRONE 25) for wound closure, due to varying wound dehiscence risks.
• Proper surgical practices should be followed for drainage and closure of contaminated or infected wounds.
• This suture might not be suitable for patients with conditions that could delay wound healing. For sites prone to expansion or requiring extra support, consider using non-absorbable sutures.
• Handle surgical needles carefully to prevent accidental injuries and dispose of used needles in 'Sharps' containers.
• Do not reuse this suture; it's designed for single-use. Reuse can lead to cross-contamination and compromise device safety and performance.

Precautions:

• In specific cases, such as orthopedic surgeries, external support immobilization might be necessary.
• Skin sutures left for over 7 days can cause irritation and should be removed when needed. Subcuticular sutures should be deeply placed to reduce associated erythema and induration during absorption.
• Handle sutures carefully to avoid damage. Steer clear of crushing or crimping damage from surgical tools.
• Ensure knot security for DemeCAPRONE (POLIGLECAPRONE 25) sutures. Proper knot tying techniques should be used, and additional throws might be necessary, especially with monofilaments.
• When holding the needle, grip it between one-third and one-half of the distance from the swaged end to the point. Refrain from reshaping needles as they can weaken.

• Be cautious using absorbable sutures in tissues with poor blood circulation due to potential suture extrusion and delayed absorption.
• Avoid prolonged exposure to high temperatures.
• Be aware that broken needles can complicate surgeries, leave residual foreign bodies, and increase the risk of bloodborne pathogen transmission from contaminated needles.
